One dead in officer-involved shooting in Rapid City Friday afternoon

RAPID CITY, S.D. – One man is deceased as the result of a deputy-involved shooting following an unwanted subject call at a residence near the intersection of Radar Hill Road and Morris Lane Friday afternoon.
Pennington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call to remove an intoxicated and out-of-control family member from a Rapid Valley residence. At about 3:25 pm on May 14, multiple Deputies were confronted by a male subject carrying a long gun. The male levelled the gun in the direction of people on scene and ignored commands to drop the gun. A deputy-involved shooting occurred and the man died from injuries. No law enforcement or bystanders were hurt during the situation.
Immediately following the shooting, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office turned over the scene to assisting South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and Rapid City Department officers.
The investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Division of Criminal Investigation assisted by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
The name of the deceased male will not be released at this time, pending notification of family.
