Harold Salway, Jr, was indicted on June 23 and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica Duffy on June 29. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The charges against Salway Jr. stem from an arrest in which he was found to be in possession of two 9mm semi-automatic pistols and a rifle.
He also faces a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance as well as use of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
The 22-year-old Salway faces prison time and fines up to $250,000.
Meanwhile, another Rapid City man has been sentenced for being in possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Jackson Bissonette, 31, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He also must pay a special assessment fee to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
He was indicted in August of 2020 and plead guilty in March of 2022. His conviction stems from Bissonette being in possession of a shotgun, which was found after he came into contact with law enforcement in January of 2020.
