STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says a female was killed in a U.T.V. crash that happened Monday night.
Chief Deputy James Johns says they were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call regarding a U.T.V. at approximately 7:46 p.m. on March 18.
Multiple resources responded to the area of Waite Gulch Road and Piedmont Road for this incident. This is the area between Dalton Lake and Piedmont, which is popular for UTV and ATV vehicles.
Upon arrival, it was determined a single UTV had left the roadway and struck a tree. A female passenger in the UTV was found deceased when emergency personnel arrived. The driver of the UTV was taken to Monument Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Names of those involved have not been released pending notification of relatives.
This crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
