RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers faced off with Douglas for the second time in a week and handed the Patriots a 16-6 loss at McKeague Field on Monday night.
The Scoopers jumped out to an 11-2 lead after one inning and never looked back, cruising to the easy win. Â The victory was the fourth straight for Sturgis.
Senior Owen Cass had the hot bat for Sturgis, driving in five runs with two singles and a double, raising his season average to .667. Â The Scoopers racked up nine hits in the game as Kain Peters and Dylan Christenson contributed two hits apiece for Sturgis.
Jake Peters was credited with the victory for Sturgis (4-2). The pitcher gave up two runs on four hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Brody Royer and Hunter Janzen entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Remi Kasuske took the loss for Douglas. The righty lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and no runs while walking one. Lucas Giersberg started the game for the Patriots. Giersberg lasted one-third of an inning, allowing five hits and 11 runs. Caleb Hauser led Douglas with two hits in two at bats.
The Scoopers are in action next versus Rapid City Stevens on Wednesday night at McKeague Field. Â First pitch is slated for 7:30pm.
