Paige McPherson appears to be Olympic bound once again

STURGIS — It’s not official yet, but it looks like Sturgis native Paige McPherson is headed to next year’s Olympics to represent Team USA.

The 29-year-old who was home this week for the holidays, says she has unofficially been named a member of Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics, set to run July 24th through August 9th next year.

McPherson says she is waiting for an official announcement from the Taekwondo Federation. McPherson said they have until the end of January to officially make the announcement, but she expects the announcement to come the first week in January.

This will be McPherson’s third trip to the Olympics, having previously qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, and the 2016 Rio Olympics. She won bronze at the 2012 Olympics and at the 2016 Rio Olympics she lost her opening round match and finished 11th overall.
