Parents worry about safety along busy stretch of highway

STURGIS, S.D. – Some parents in the Meade 46-1 School District are calling for safer bus stops along a busy stretch of highway.

Parents say children who live in mobile home parks along Highway 14A, or Boulder Canyon, are forced to wait along a four lane highway.

Parents in these neighborhoods have organized to try and create change surrounding how the stretch of road is handled in the future.

They are calling for a crosswalk with signals to be added to improve safety or a total change in the existing bus route. Similar changes were made to the highway outside Sturgis Brown High School following a fatal crash.

Parents tell KOTA-TV in Rapid City that Harlow’s Bus Service isn’t being responsive to complaints about the route.
