Patriots Sweep Scooper Soccer Teams

STURGIS, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers hosted the Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots at Woodle Field on Friday, with Lincoln taking both games from Sturgis.

In the girls match, Sioux Falls Lincoln struck first as Ava Hurt got a hold of a loose ball in the goal box and put it in the back of the net, giving Lincoln a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the match. Cali Doohen scored again for the Patriots with 7:17 before halftime on a left-footed blast. Lincoln took the 2-0 lead into intermission.

The Scoopers made several runs into Lincoln territory early in the second half but couldn’t get the ball past Ilee Neemeyer, the Sioux Falls goalkeeper. Doohen added another goal with 11:24 left on a penalty kick to secure the 3-0 Lincoln win.

The Lincoln girls improved to 1-0-1 on the season and Sturgis dropped to 0-2-0.

In the boys match, Sioux Falls Lincoln used crisp passing and a possession strategy to defeat Sturgis, 2-0 at Woodle Field.

The defending state champion Patriots scored midway through the first half, as Salmonsi David took a cross from Liam VanRoekel and put it in the back of the net, giving Lincoln a 1-0 lead with 17:24 before halftime. Sioux Falls led 1-0 at the break.

The Scoopers had several shots on goal in the second half but couldn’t finish due to the goalkeeping of  Quintin Hernes, who made several textbook saves for Lincoln. Brady Stamp finished the scoring for the Patriots with a low blast from the left side, beating Scooper net minder Christian Lemcke to give Sioux Falls the 2-0 win.

Lincoln improved to 3-0-0 on the year and Sturgis dropped to 0-2-0.

The Scoopers host Sioux Falls Washington on Saturday at Woodle Field. The girls match is scheduled for 10am and the boys match is scheduled for noon.
