Pedestrian fatally struck in Deadwood Wednesday night

DEADWOOD, S.D. – One person died Wednesday evening in a car vs. pedestrian crash in Deadwood, SD.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling westbound toward Deadwood, SD.  The Hyundai traveled through the intersection of 14A and Main Street and struck a 38-year-old male pedestrian attempting to cross 14A in a crosswalk.

The 38-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Life Flight to a Rapid City hospital where he later died.

The 26-year-old female driver of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe was not injured.  She was wearing a seatbelt.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash and the South Dakota Highway Patrol says charges are pending.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
