Pedestrian struck by car Thursday night in Rapid City dies

RAPID CITY, S.D.- Rapid City police say one person has died after being hit by a vehicle Thursday evening.

At 10:00 p.m. on February 10, Rapid City Police Department responded to reports of a car that had struck a pedestrian at the 1700 block of Haines Avenue.

An off-duty Rapid City Fire Department firefighter had already started emergency first aid efforts before police arrived, and the victim was transported to the hospital. He was then declared deceased.

Witnesses told Rapid City Police officers that the vehicle was traveling south on Haines Avenue, and a pedestrian “darted into the roadway.”

Rapid City Police Department Spokesperson Brendyn Medina says the Critical Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
