RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pennington County Commission has voted unanimously to send former Deputy State’s Attorney Lara Roetzel to the State’s Attorney position.
Roetzel will take over for Mark Vargo, who announced his resignation last month.
Roetzel will officially become Pennington County State’s Attorney on April 24th.
Vargo is leaving the office to take over a new position that will have him helping communities in Thailand.
Vargo became Pennington County State’s Attorney in January of 2013. He also served a stint as the South Dakota State’s Attorney before Marty Jackley was elected. During that time, Roetzel served as interim Pennington County State’s Attorney.
