Pennington County has second highest total of active COVID-19 cases in state

PIERRE, S.D. – The state recorded 29 new COVID-19 cases in the Monday report, with 5 of them in Pennington County.

The additional positive tests in Pennington give the county 148 active cases, the second highest total of active cases in the state. Minnehaha County reports the highest number with 225 considered active.

Other cases in western South Dakota Monday included one each in Meade, Oglala Lakota, Fall River and Lyman counties. Meade County has 11 active cases, Oglala Lakota has 19, Fall River has 3 and Lyman County has 21.

The number of active cases statewide is 808, down 19 from Sunday.

Statewide recoveries are up by 48, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,437. A total of 88 people are currently hospitalized and 616 people have been hospitalized since the pandemic began.

There were no new deaths reported Monday, keeping the state total at 81.
