RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has released its 2022 annual report, highlighting crime statistics, and trends.
The report shows overall arrests down from the previous year – 3,323 in 2022 compared to 4,439 in 2021.
One murder was handles by the sheriff’s office, although there were nine murders combined in the county in 2022. That is down from 16 in 2021.
Other violent crimes, such as sexual aggravated assaults, were up last year while methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced pills remain the biggest drug problems in the county.
D.U.I. arrests totaled 232 – down from 2021’s 309 and car/pedestrian fatal crashes were up three from the previous year.
