STURGIS, SD – Scooper right-hander Beau Peters threw a complete game no-hitter to lead Sturgis to a 9-0 win over the Douglas Patriots on Senior Night at Strong Field on Monday night.Â
The Scoopers honored seniors Beau Peters, Kayden Vasknetz, Aiden Wood, Dylan Christianson, Bricon Herren, Jack Knutson, Yaden Miller and Drake Sundstrom in a pre-game ceremony.
The Scoopers led 3-0 after one inning and 6-0 after two and looked like they would end the game early after plating three more runs in the fourth inning. Douglas replaced starting pitcher Caleb Hauser with Carson Hicks after four innings because Hauser exceeded the pitch count. Â Hicks used a variety of pitches and shut down the Scooper offense in the fifth and sixth innings.
Peters did the same to the Douglas Patriots, fanning batter after batter with fastballs and devastating curveballs. Â Peters struck out three in the top of the seventh to get the complete game win. Â The senior threw a no-hitter, finishing with 17 strikeouts and four walks on 100 pitches. Â The Scoopers collected seven hits and were led by Herren and Miller with two hits each. Â Miller added two RBIs.
The win improved Sturgis to 3-4 on the season and dropped Douglas to 1-7. Â The Scoopers host Rapid City Central in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Strong Field.Â
