Pickup, motorcycle collision results in one fatality

LENNOX, S.D. – Authorities have released the names of those involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened near Lennox on Tuesday.

Preliminary crash information indicates that around 3:30 p.m. on July 30, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 68-year-old Jerry Wallenstein of Sioux Falls was traveling eastbound on US 18 in Lincoln County, five miles south of Lennox.

Wallenstein was in the left turning lane to turn northbound onto 466th Avenue.

The driver of a Harley Davidson, 60-year-old Jerry Shafer of Homeworth, Ohio, was westbound on US 18.

The Silverado collided with the Motorcycle, ejecting Shafer, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Wallenstein and a passenger in the Silverado were not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
