SUMMERSET, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says a Piedmont man has been arrested and is facing numerous drug-related charges.
Chief Deputy James Johns says at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, law enforcement was contacted regarding a subject passed out in a vehicle on 3rd Street in Piedmont.
Johns says upon arrival deputies found an unconscious subject, identified as 35-year-old Tyler Gallant of Piedmont, in the vehicle, holding a hypodermic needle in his lap.
A subsequent search of his vehicle and residence turned up over 20 grams of Fentanyl pills, approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Gallant is facing a list of charges including distribution and possession of a controlled substance.
He is currently in the Meade County Jail after being arrested.
“Illicit drugs, especially fentanyl and methamphetamine, continue to be a scourge on our communities. The devastation these drugs cause can’t be measured. We will continue to do all we can to get this poison off the streets in Meade County and hold those who bring this poison here accountable,” said Meade County Sheriff Pat West.
The case has been turned over to the Meade County States Attorney, and no other information is available at this time.
