PIEDMONT, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office and Piedmont Valley Elementary School (PVE) are excited to unveil a newly outfitted School Resource Officer (SRO) vehicle during a special school assembly on Thursday, February 27th, at 1:30 PM.
This unique vehicle, assigned to Deputy Ness, was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Sheriff’s Office, the school, and the local community. The Meade County Sheriff’s Office secured a slightly damaged vehicle from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, which was then repaired and repurposed for duty at PVE.
A standout feature of this project is the vehicle’s custom graphics, designed with the creativity of PVE students. As part of a school-wide contest, students were invited to submit design ideas, which were then refined by a local artist to create the final look. This initiative gave students a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a project that enhances safety and school spirit.
The PVE Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) played a crucial role in bringing this vision to life, generously donating proceeds from the Fall Festival to fund the custom graphics.
“This vehicle is a true testament to the power of community involvement and reflects our Office’s ongoing commitment to being an active part of the school environment,” said Sheriff Pat West.
While primarily serving as the dedicated SRO vehicle for PVE, the car will also be integrated into the Sheriff’s Office fleet during summer months when school is not in session, ensuring its continued value to the department.
This unveiling event celebrates not only a new resource for school safety but also the strong partnership between law enforcement, students, parents, and the broader Meade County community.
