Pierre wins first game of season with 60-53 victory over Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. – Pierre outscored Sturgis 16-7 in the third quarter and held on to the lead in the fourth to get their first win of the season – a 60-53 victory Tuesday night.

Sturgis jumped on top of Pierre early, outscoring the Govs 16-11 in the first quarter.

Pierre, however, would hang tough with Sturgis in the second quarter, led by Grey Zabel’s 10 points.

Down 31-28 to start the third, freshman Lincoln Kienholz got on a hot streak, scoring 18 points in the second half to help Pierre pull away.

Kienholz finished with 28 points while Zabel finished with a double-double – 17 points and 19 rebounds.

Sturgis had three players in double figures; led by Marcus Myrick’s 17 points. Ryder Ladner added 14 points and David Anderson had a solid game chipping in 12.

Pierre is 1-8 on the season. Sturgis falls to 2-5.
