Police in Rapid City identify suspect in death of woman

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police in Rapid City say they have identified a suspect in the death of 82-year-old Reta McGovern.

On Friday, police said they were searching for 45-year-old James Jumping Eagle of Rapid City in connection with McGovern’s death. McGovern was found dead in her home on Flormann Street. Authorities say a relative found her body and her throat had been cut.

Evidence recovered from the scene has connected Jumping Eagle to the crime.

Jumping Eagle is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with any information about Jumping Eagle’s whereabouts should contact police immediately at 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
