Police in Rapid City investigating Tuesday night shooting

RAPID CITY, S.D. — At approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Rapid City Police Department officers were dispatched for a report of gunshots heard in the 900 block of N. 7th Street.

Police located evidence of the shooting in the alleyway behind the 900 block of N. 7th Street, and a short time later, 911 dispatch received call from the area of Crestwood Street and Downing Street for a report of a male subject with a gunshot wound.

When they arrived on scene, police located the male who was being treated by a medical unit. The male was then transported to the hospital for the treatment of serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The RCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division has been working through the evening and into Wednesday morning to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The shooting does not appear to be random in nature, and there is no reason to believe that there is any ongoing danger to the public.
