Police search home for homicide suspects

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City/Pennington County Special Response Team was called to a home in the 1300 block of Wood Avenue Sunday morning after officials received information that suspects involved in the early Saturday morning homicide on Surfwood Drive may be at the residence.

The area was blocked off and nearby homes were evacuated for safety, while the Special Response Team assisted city, county and state agencies in executing search warrants.

Authorities were on scene approximately four hours, with law enforcement escorting out a group of individuals early on, followed by a single individual just under three hours later.

Police say none of the individuals who exited the home were wanted in relation to the double homicide, but were wanted for other reasons.

Captain James Johns of the Rapid City Police Department said “we’ve made multiple arrests on outstanding warrants for people that were in there. While the suspects that we were specifically looking for weren’t in this residence, the folks that we did encounter in the residence had warrants and they were taken into custody at this time, and the investigation into the homicide continues.”
