BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota Class ‘A’ state legion baseball tournament kicked off Tuesday in Brookings as eight teams began their hopes of winning the state title.
Rapid City Post 22 opened the State ‘A’ Legion tournament by taking on the host team, Brookings Post 74. The Hardhats beat Brookings four times during the regular season, but Post 74 had different ideas Tuesday as they beat Post 22 5-2.
Brookings collected 16 hits and upset No. 2 Rapid City, 5-2.
Tyson Antonen earned the victory for Brookings, allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out three.
Meanwhile, Eli Kelley took the loss for Post 22. He allowed three runs on nine hits in four innings.
Post 22 will now play Yankton on Wednesday at noon MT. The loser of this game is eliminated from the tournament.
