RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Post 33 Titan legion baseball team had trouble getting their bats going at Pete Lien Field on Thursday night, losing in their first game of the Veterans Classic tournament to Rapid City Post 320, 2-1.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Owen Cass singled to right field, scoring Dylan Christenson to give Sturgis a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Ryan Rufeldt blasted a two-run homer over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Stars a 2-1 lead and the eventual win.
Jett Wetzler earned the win for Post 320. The right hander lasted six innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven. Kolby Denke threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. The Post 320 Stars (7-10) collected eight hits.
Kain Peters took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. Peters went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Owen Cass went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Titans in hits.
The Titans (0-3) play the Colorado Rouge on Friday morning at Pete Lien Field.
