Post 33 Blows Out Billings at Baseball Rally

STURGIS, S.D. – Owen Cass lit up the Billings Expos Navy squad with three hits and four RBIs to lead Sturgis Post 33 past Billings 17-5 on Saturday in the losers bracket of the Sturgis Baseball Rally. 

The Titans lost earlier on Saturday to the Billings Red team, 9-1. 

Billings plated three runs in the first inning.  Evan Johnson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring the first run for the Expos.  Logan Walker came to the plate and smacked a double to left, scoring Johnson and Tarin Marker. Billings led 3-0 headed into the bottom of the first.  

Post 33 didn’t get on the board until the bottom of the second and they poured it on, scorching the Expos under the hot summer sun with 13 runs on 11 hits. The Titans led 13-3 after two innings and they put away Billings for good with one more run in the third and three more in the fourth to secure the victory. 

Evan Stroud was credited with the victory for Sturgis Post 33. Stroud surrendered five runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one.

Wasker Copellon took the loss for Billings. The hurler allowed eight hits and nine runs over one and one-third innings, walking one.

Post 33 put up 15 hits in the game and were led by Cass and Stroud with three hits each. 

Tarin Marker went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Billings Expos.

The Titans (4-11) will continue play on Sunday morning, facing Alliance, NE in the losers bracket at 10am at Strong Field.
