Post 33 Loses on Walk-Off Single to Smittys

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A walk-off left Sturgis Post 33 Titans on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to the Aberdeen Smittys Post 24 Legion baseball team on Friday at the Rushmore Classic tournament at Pete Lien Field.

The game was tied at six with the Smittys batting in the bottom of the seventh when Casey Vining singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run to secure the win for Aberdeen.

Jaiden Smith was credited with the victory for Post 24. The hurler allowed one hit and two runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

Owen Cass took the loss for Post 33. Cass allowed nine hits and seven runs over six and a third innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Titans had eight hits in the game. Sam Kooima and Ridge Inhofer each collected two hits to lead Sturgis Post 33. The Post 24 Smittys totaled nine hits and were led by Drew Salfrank, who went 2-for-4.

Sturgis (11-17) plays the Rapid City Post 320 Stars on Saturday at 11:30am on the final day of play in the Rushmore Classic.
