Western South Dakota's Only Ranch Station

Put a little extra ‘shine’ on hospitality skills ahead of tourist season

PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota Department of Tourism will host its annual Spring Hospitality Training May 2-5. The trainings will be held in seven communities across South Dakota.

The Spring Hospitality Training series is designed to provide tools, guest service tactics, professional development, and encouragement for South Dakotans involved in the tourism industry. Anyone involved in a business relevant to tourism and hospitality is encouraged to attend the free trainings.

Those wanting to learn more about the tourism industry and career paths within this job sector are also welcomed to attend.

“The tourism industry is vital to South Dakota. It provides incredible economic impact and more than 54,000 jobs across the state,” said James Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism. “Our department puts great value in professional development training and knows that the future of the industry is only as strong as our current workforce and the next generation of business leaders.”

The Department of Tourism has partnered with a customer service expert and professional speaker, Christine Cashen, to train attendees. Cashen’s themed presentation, “Carpe Chaos: How to Get Along, Get More Done, and Have More Fun!” will feature tips on how to boost energy and morale, how to integrate and work with all personality styles, and provide creative problem-solving techniques.
