Rapid City, Box Elder police arrest suspect after stolen vehicle pursuit

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City and Box Elder police say a suspect led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle Friday morning.

Rapid City Police say they were called to assist with the pursuit of a stolen vehicle that originated in the Box Elder area.

During the pursuit, two teenage girls – aged 15 and 17 – ran from the vehicle during a brief stop in Prairie View. They were located, questioned, and arrested. Although their identities are being withheld, Box Elder Police identified them as runaways with gang affiliations, and said they were charged for possession of methamphetamine.

The pursuit proceeded west along I-90 and came into Rapid City via Lacrosse Street. After circling the Lacrosse Street area, the truck came to a stop behind the 1600 block of Lacrosse Street before the male driver was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 37-year-old Sean Forrest Hawk of Rapid City. He had a warrant in Oregon for possession of marijuana and another felony warrant for bond revocation on a possession of controlled substance charge. Forrest Hawk is facing additional charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, driving on the wrong side of the road, DUI first offense (drug), aggravated eluding law enforcement, intentional damage to property ($5,001 – $100,000), first degree vandalism, hit and run, possession of a controlled drug substance (schedule II), possession of a stolen vehicle, possession or use of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, and two stop sign violations.

The Box Elder Police Department is handling the investigation.
