RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Central Cobblers jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back in a 54-27 rout of the Scoopers in girls basketball Thursday night.
A well balanced attack gave the Cobblers a 28-7 advantage at halftime and a 15-6 third quarter all but put the game away.
Kenya Merrival scored 11 points to lead the Cobblers as their smothering defense kept Sturgis stymied offensively all night long.
The Cobblers improve to 5-5 on the season while the Scoopers fall to 2-6.
Kylie Shaw led the Scoopers with 12 points.
In the boys game, Sturgis saw a slim one point lead evaporate in the third quarter as the Cobblers went on a 14-6 run to down the Scoopers 61-44.
Ryder Ladner got off to a great start for Sturgis, scoring 10 points in the first half to keep the game close.
But Julian Swallow was too much to handle as the Cobbler scored 9 second half points to give Central a lead they would not relinquish.
Micah Swallow led the way for the Cobblers, though, scoring 20 points. Kohl Meisman added 12 points and Robbie Weber added 10 to the give the Cobblers four players in double figures.
Central improves to 7-3 on the season. The Scoopers fall to 2-6.
