Rapid City Council votes to dismiss complaints against council president Armstrong

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Common Council voted unanimously in an executive session late Monday night to dismiss all complaints against Council President Laura Armstrong.

Council Vice President Lance Lehmann made the motion to dismiss the comments finding no evidence to support the complaints.

The council spent about an hour in executive session discussing the nearly 100 complaints filed in December that charged Armstrong with harming local businesses by helping post a Facebook page that identified businesses that required masks and those that didn’t.

There were also complaints that criticized her conduct at council meetings where a city-wide mask mandate was considered.

In a statement released Tuesday, Armstrong stated: “After a lengthy discussion in executive session, my colleagues on the Rapid City Council issued their decision to dismiss the Code of Conduct complaints against me. I appreciate their detailed review and evaluation of this matter and the conclusions reached with their unanimous decision. I am grateful for the expressions of support I have received from throughout the community these past several weeks. I am hopeful we can move forward as a Council and as residents to address and work on the important issues affecting our community.”
