Rapid City elementary school goes to remote learning due to COVID-19

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Area School District announced Wednesday that Grandview Elementary School will be closed Thursday, October 28 and Friday, October 29, due to a staffing shortage caused by an increase in COVID-19 cases.

In an email sent to parents on Wednesday, Rapid City Area Schools Public Information Manager Katy Urban said that for the remainder of the week, all students, including special education students, will learn remotely.

According to the email, since Sunday, October 17, 50 staff and students at Grandview Elementary have tested positive for COVID-19. RCAS Superintendent Dr. Lori Simon plans to work with Grandview Principal Cynthia Lundgren to monitor the staffing situation and assess whether it is necessary to close for additional days next week.
