RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Fire crews worked to contain a small fire at the Rapid City Municipal Landfill Monday.
According to a Facebook post from the Rapid City Municipal Government, the call came in shortly after 10:00 a.m. Monday, with crews from the Rapid City Fire Department responding.
The fire at the landfill’s materials recovery facility produced a large amount of smoke as it burned in a large cardboard debris pile.
Crews used heavy machinery and handwork to break apart the garbage so it could be extinguished.
No injuries were reported.

Fire crews also battled a house fire on the 900 block of 11th Street in Rapid City.
Fire officials say the fire was called in at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Prior to the fire, a Montana-Dakota Utilities crew had been working on a gas line leak when they reportedly heard an explosion.
Homes were evacuated in the vicinity of the fire. No injuries were reported and one dog was saved from the residence.
