RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City fire crews say at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning, they were dispatched to a structure fire in the 2200 block of East Philadelphia Street.
While crews were on their way to the scene, smoke could be seen billowing from the area.
First arriving crews noticed smoke and flames coming from an apartment complex that is under construction. The main body of fire was located on the first floor.
The fire was extinguished within two minutes of crews arriving, but the overhaul process was lengthy due to the additional construction materials overhead that had to be removed. Construction materials stacked on the floor above the fire had to be removed due to their weight and the structural compromised caused by the fire. Once it was deemed safe, fire crews then completed the overhaul process to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
