Rapid City Fire responds to call at Forest Products Distributors

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City fire crews responded to an early morning fire at Forest Products Distributors on Old Folsom Road.

According to a tweet from Rapid City, crews were called around 4:30 this morning.

According to Rapid City Fire Department Lt. Jim Bussell, the fire started in a dryer used to dry pellets used for wood-burning stoves. It spread to sawdust around the initial fire.

Bussell says they were able to keep the fire contained to the dryer and some surrounding sawdust.

Bussell says there was quite an extensive overhaul operation due to the massive amounts of sawdust.

Cause of the fire not known as of yet and there were no injuries reported.
