RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee Wednesday approved the second reading of a medical cannabis dispensary zoning ordinance.
Among the stipulations included in the ordinance are that dispensaries must be at least 1,000 feet away from schools and at least 500 feet away from public parks, churches or areas zoned residential.
The ordinance will now move to the city council October 4 agenda.
If it passes through the council, Rapid City Communications Coordinator Darrell Shoemaker says it will be published.
“There will be a publication requirement, so it will be in the daily newspaper on Saturday, a week from this Saturday,” Shoemaker explained. “And then usually a 20-day grace period.”
Once that 20-day grace period is over, the ordinance will officially go into effect.
