Rapid City man accused of murder makes a court appearance

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Second Degree Murder and Using and Carrying a Firearm during and in relation to a Crime of Violence.

Joshua Walking Eagle, 31, is accused of shooting to death 48-year-old Lloyd Walking Eagle in Rosebud on May 29th. It’s unclear if the two are related.

He was indicted on September 9 and made a court appearance Thursday in which he entered a plea of not guilty.

He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, which has been set for January 5, 2021.

If convicted, Walking Eagle faces up to life in prison.
