RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for attempted receipt of child pornography.
Travis McDonald, 28, was arrested following a sex sting operation conducted during the 2020 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in which a law enforcement agent went undercover as minors online and had conversations with men who agreed to meet with personas they thought to be minors.
McDonald had a sexually explicit conversation with a special agent posing as a 13-year-old girl.
McDonald pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted receipt of child pornography in exchange for the dropping of attempted enticement of a minor using the Internet.
Judge Karen Schreier sentenced McDonald to two years above the minimum sentence of five years after both the prosecution and defense agreed to the sentence because McDonald’s original charge held a minimum of 10 years in prison.
