Rapid City PD investigating double homicide

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City police say they are currently investigating an overnight shooting incident that has reportedly left two people dead.

Police say they were dispatched to the 800 block of East Meadowlark Drive at around 10:40 Monday night for a report of a disturbance in progress.

While police were en-route to the location, the 9-1-1 caller reported hearing gunshots.

On arrival, police located a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the reported address and inside were two individuals. Upon entering the vehicle, police noted both of them were deceased. Police say it appears they died due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld until proper next-of-kin notification can be made.

Since the initial report, police have been working to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this point in the investigation, police believe the shooting victims knew the shooter.

Preliminary evidence has given reason to explore a potential drug connection in relation to this incident.

RCPD detectives are actively working to follow up on every lead generated in the investigation. Anyone with any information about the shooting should contact Detective Barry Young at 394-4134.

An anonymous tip can also be sent by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
