Rapid City Police arrest suspect in connection with string of vehicle burglaries

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say they have apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries.

Police have been investigating vehicle burglaries that occurred in neighborhoods around Sheridan Lake Road and West Chicago Street from July 15-20.

Police previously were seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect from a surveillance photo, who was identified as 20-year-old Edgar Yamni Bear Runner and residing at 2613 Castle Heights Drive.

A search warrant was obtained, and Bear Runner was located in the residence and taken into custody August 1.

Police found a number of stolen items inside the residence, including two stolen firearms.

Bear Runner was placed under arrest for first degree burglary with additional charges pending.

The RCPD says none of the incidents in the burglaries involved forced entry and all vehicles, and one garage, were unsecured. They say it is important to secure vehicles and property before leaving them unattended.

The investigation into the string of burglaries remains active and ongoing.
