Rapid City Police arrest suspect in Sunday night shooting incident

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Police in Rapid City say they were dispatched to the 1200 block of 5th street just after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night for a report of a male who had fired a shotgun at a residence.

In a news release, RCPD says officers made contact with witnesses when they arrived on scene and they learned that a male had gotten into a verbal dispute with another party at the residence before firing the shotgun. The suspect left the area in a vehicle following the incident.

The next morning around 9:20 a.m., police were called back to the residence when witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle had returned to the location.

Officers located the suspect in an apartment at the address. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Dylan Adkins of Casper, Wyoming. A witness was able to positively identify Adkins as the shooting suspect.

Police have determined the firearm used in the incident was a shotgun with an altered barrel.

Adkins was placed under arrest for aggravated assault and possession of a controlled weapon before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.

Police reported no injuries in the incident.
