Rapid City police arrest two people in connection with burglaries

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say they have arrested two people, an 18-year-old and a juvenile, in connection with a string burglaries.

Police say they were called to a residence in the 300 block of E. Centennial Street early Thursday morning for a report of a vehicle burglary.

When the officers arrived at the residence, they made contact with the victim who then provided security camera footage showing some male suspects entering vehicles. A trail of discarded items through the neighborhood led the property owners to their stolen items.

The RCPD officers took other burglary reports before tracking the suspects down in the area of 3rd Street and Franklin Street.

Officers found one male hiding in some bushes in the 1200 block of 3rd Street. He was detained and identified as 18-year-old Gerald Baker of Rapid City.

A juvenile male was also located hiding in a nearby shed and was detained by police. Officers found a purse containing a firearm under the shed as well.

Both Baker and the juvenile male were positively identified as suspects involved in the reported vehicle burglaries. Baker was placed under arrest for criminal entry of a motor vehicle, grand theft, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police are asking anyone that lives in the general area between the 4300 block of Parkview Drive and the area of 3rd Street and Franklin Street to check any security cameras for suspicious activity between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. and they should contact police at 605-394-4131 if they have any evidence of suspicious activity, or have been victims of a burglary.
