RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Monday night.
At around 7 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Catron Boulevard and Black Hills Boulevard for a report of a multi-vehicle crash.
Police, fire and medical units arrived on scene and began working to extricate the driver out of a maroon passenger vehicle. The driver was extricated and transported to the hospital, but police later learned the driver had died at the hospital.
After speaking to witnesses, police learned the maroon passenger vehicle was travelling the wrong way westbound in the eastbound lanes of Catron Boulevard and then collided with an eastbound pickup truck before striking a van and then another pickup.
No other occupants of the other vehicles required medical transport from the scene.
The RCPD’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin.
