Rapid City police investigating fatal shooting that took place Wednesday evening

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A shooting we told you about earlier this morning is now a fatal shooting being investigated by the Rapid City Police Department.

Police report at around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th,  officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Wambli Court for a report of an individual who had sustained a gunshot wound.

During the course of the 911 call, police learned that the injured male was being transported away from the scene in a vehicle. Police came in contact with the vehicle in the 1900 block of Haines Avenue.

Emergency life-saving measures were performed on the injured male and a medical unit arrived shortly after. The injured male was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Brandon Wounded Arrow of Rapid City.

An autopsy has been scheduled and evidence recovered during the investigation is being submitted for forensic testing in order to help police better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This remains an open and active investigation by the RCPD and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. Police say there is no reason to believe that an ongoing threat to public safety exists as a result of this incident.

The weapon discharged in the incident has been recovered and police have made contact with all known parties present during the time of the shooting.
