Rapid City Police say one man is dead after shooting Wednesday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say one man is dead and another is hospitalized after shots were exchanged in north Rapid City on Wednesday night.

Police say shortly before 11 p.m., they were called to the 1700 block of North Maple Avenue for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police found a man in an apartment who suffered a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rapid City Police also located a second man who had been shot in the leg. He was transported to Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. Police have not commented on his condition.

Brendyn Medina, spokesperson for the Rapid City Police Department, says that officers were able to account for and speak to everyone on scene. They determined there is no ongoing threat to the public though police have not released information on any arrests.

He adds that the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.
