RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Public Works Committee got an update on Rapid City Regional Airport’s terminal expansion plan Tuesday.
Airport officials say it carries a potential price tag of up to $160 million dollars, and they expect the expansion will help bring in more airlines over the next couple of years, giving travelers more options.
In the expansion, four major components will be addressed, according to the airport:
1) Renovate existing passenger ticketing
2) Expand the baggage makeup area to allow air carriers to convey luggage without manual carrying over long distances
3) Relocate and expand TSA security checkpoints to allow new equipment and accommodate passenger throughput
4) Expand the Terminal Apron to accommodate terminal expansion.
Airport officials add that they’re also looking at replacing the runway, which carries a range of $90 million to $100 million.
