Rapid City Regional Airport Sees Highest Summer on Record

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A busy summer tourism season has led to record numbers at Rapid City Regional Airport.

The airport reported their highest summer season on record for passenger numbers during the months of June through August 2021.  Total passengers were 280,544, an increase of 11% over the previous record in 2019 of 253,329 passengers.

“The summer season ended well and we are very pleased with the passenger numbers,” stated Airport Executive Director Patrick Dame.

“The additional flights added for the summer and the Sturgis Rally contributed to the strong season, and we are particularly grateful to our staff and tenants who worked hard this summer through a challenging year.  I can’t say enough how much I appreciate all of them.”

Enplaned passengers rose 14% from 124,339 in 2019, to 141,382 in 2021.  Year to date total passengers are 2.9% below with 457,051 total passengers in 2021, and 470,924 in 2019.
