Rapid City to keep six schools at level 3 through Thanksgiving break; Spearfish remains at level 2

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Six Rapid City Area Schools will continue with e-learning through Thanksgiving break.

R.C.A.S. spokeswoman Kati Urban says the six schools are Grandview Elementary, South Middle School, West Middle School, Southwest Middle School, Stevens High School and Central High School.

Meanwhile, in Spearfish, the school board met in emergency session Wednesday to discuss going to level 3 at the high school due to an influx of COVID-19 cases.

School officials say 23 students and one staff member at the high school are currently in self-quarantine with COVID-19.  However, Superintendent Kirk Easton says 16 of those people should be back on Monday.

Because of that, board members decided to remain at level 2 for now and revisit the situation at a Monday meeting.
