Rapid City woman arrested after fleeing police in stolen vehicle

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City woman has been arrested after fleeing police.

38-year-old Stacie Tail of Rapid City was arrested Tuesday night after police say she led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

According to police, at around 11 p.m., police observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen traveling at a high speed westbound on Omaha Street. After it turned to head south on Mount Rushmore Road, an officer followed the vehicle until more units could arrive to stop the vehicle. Police initiated a traffic stop just before the vehicle turned into a driveway in the 1100 block of Saint Patrick Street.

The driver, Tail, ignored all commands to stop, turned around in the driveway, and fled onto Saint Patrick Street. Police used spike strips to deflate one of the tires of Tail’s vehicle and she came to a stop at 3rd Street and Flormann Street, where she exited her vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, police said.

Police successfully apprehended Tail and performed a DUI investigation in which she was found to be too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. An open alcohol container was also located in the vehicle.

Tail was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI, Aggravated Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, and an active Warrant.
