Rapid Valley Structure Fire Escalates to Two Alarms
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 15000 block of East Highway 44, Caputa Friday morning.
First arriving Firefighters found a free burning fire, with a moderate to heavy smoke condition, in the
interior and roof assembly of a detached garage and immediately struck a second alarm.
Firefighters contained the fire to the detached garage, stopping the spread of flames to nearby structures, infrastructure and other improvements.
No injuries to Firefighters, were reported, unfortunately one family dog failed to escape and succumbed to the smoke and fire.
A Pennington County Deputy Sheriff suffered first degree burns while assisting the occupant of the structure escape the flames. The Deputy was transported to the hospital along with a resident who also suffered from second and third degree burns and smoke inhalation. The Deputy was treated and released.
