RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Fire Department was dispatched to a water flow alarm in the 2200 block of E Philadelphia Street at 1:45 Wednesday afternoon.
A resident of the building reported seeing smoke in the hallway, and the call was upgraded to a structure fire.
When crews arrived, nothing was showing from the exterior. Once they entered, they could see smoke in the hallway and noticed it was coming from an isolated apartment.
Crews made entry and found a minimal volume of fire, which they quickly extinguished.
Fire sprinklers in the building activated and kept the fire from extending out of the room of origin.
Two cats were rescued.
There were no injuries, but three people were evaluated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
