RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police Department has arrested 19-year-old Taydence Garnette after a physical altercation and a standoff at a residence on Sheridan Lake Road on October 15.
Around 9:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to Sheridan Lake Road between Jackson Boulevard and Arrow Street following reports of a physical altercation involving a female and Garnette.
RCPD discovered that Garnette had an outstanding warrant. Witnesses reported that Garnette, who was in possession of a firearm, fled into a nearby residence.
Police made multiple attempts to contact Garnette inside the residence, but he refused to cooperate. At one point during the response, Garnette exited the house and got into an SUV. Officers initiated a traffic stop and successfully removed Garnette from the vehicle. During the stop, a handgun was recovered from the SUV, which was determined to be a ride-share service vehicle that had been summoned to pick up Garnette.
A search of Garnette’s person revealed a baggie containing a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Garnette was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Commission of a Felony with a Firearm, and his outstanding warrant. He was then transported to the Pennington County Jail.
