RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police say a man was found deceased following a shooting that occurred in the 4500 block of Candlewood Place.
Police report they were called to the scene around 4:45 p.m. Friday for a report of a gunshot that was heard in the area.
When police arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive male with a gunshot wound who was determined to be deceased.
After following up on numerous leads, police arrested a suspect in the case Saturday morning.
Luke Birch, 21, has been placed under arrest for First Degree Murder and remains in the custody of the Pennington County Jail.
Information garnered during the investigation indicates Birch knew the victim, however the specific circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation by both the RCPD and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the victim is being withheld until proper notification of next-of-kin can take place.
